Sleep can sometimes feel impossible. However, in most cases sleep can be improved with some lifestyle changes – they’re often a bit unpopular (no, watching Netflix until 3am does not count as a relaxing bedtime routine) but with some perseverance they can be pretty effective! ⠀
⠀
We should always aim to make lifestyle changes mindfully so spending some time reflecting on how you spend your evening can be really helpful in working out where you might like to make changes.⠀
⠀
Try asking yourself the following questions:⠀
⠀
😴What do you spend your evenings doing? ⠀
💤How much of your evening is spent on screens?⠀
😴What are you eating and drinking in the evening?⠀
💤How long before bed do you stop eating and drinking?⠀
😴What happens in the hour before you go to bed?⠀
💤How are you usually feeling emotionally before you go to sleep?⠀
😴What sort of things do you find yourself thinking about before you go to sleep?⠀
💤How relaxed do you feel in your bedroom?⠀
😴Do you wake up in the night? If so, any idea why? What do you do when you wake up?⠀
⠀
Your answers might have already given you some clues about the helpful things you might be doing and where you might like to make some changes. Look out for more ideas on sleep hygiene in future posts! ⠀
